Blogmas Day 16: How to beat the winter break blues

It’s the beginning of finals week for me, but based on stuff I’ve seen on Instagram, it seems like some schools are already on winter break! I’m really excited for when I go on break (of course), but I also know that winter break can definitely sometimes start to feel way too long. Once the holiday celebrations are over and your friends from home start to head back to their respective colleges, it can feel like you’re stuck at home far from your friends with nothing to do. Because I know that feeling, I’m here to offer you some tips for how to beat those winter break blues!

Winter break is always much needed, but it can be hard to be away from college friends in the dead of winter. Here's my tips for beating those blues! | BLOGMAS DAY 16: HOW TO BEAT THE WINTER BREAK BLUES | HONEYBEE JOYOUS

Binge a TV show

If you’re anything like me, you’ve got a long list of TV shows you need to watch but never seem to have the time or motivation to start. Until last year, The Office was on that list. Over last year’s winter break I watched the whole show and now it’s one of my all time favorites! There’s never time during the year to watch a show that long, but break is the perfect time and it definitely gives you something to do.

Some shows I love: The Office, Parks and Recreation, Criminal Minds, The Twilight Zone, Stranger Things.

Start a big project

I started Honeybee Joyous during finals week of my sophomore year. During winter break I bought my own domain name and really started taking blogging seriously. Starting a blog was a big undertaking and having the break to really buckle down and do it was so helpful!

Whether you’re looking to downsize your whole wardrobe, start a YouTube channel, or go through all your old Facebook photos and hide the embarrassing ones, there’s no better time than winter break. It’ll give you something to do to quell your boredom, make sure you finally get that thing that’s been on your list done, and wow oh wow will you get that sweet sense of accomplishment!

Spend more time with your family

This might seem obvious, but spending time with your family is a great way to beat the winter break blues. You likely aren’t home from college all that often and your family members probably really love when they get to spend more time with you. It can be playing a video game with your sibling, driving them to school, having a movie night, or anything your family loves to do together. Hanging out with your family is the perfect winter break activity because it’s something you can’t do while you’re at school!
