Blogmas Day 17: What’s in my makeup bag?

I’ve always been more of a minimal makeup person, but lately I’ve been getting more into doing my makeup on a regular basis. I love watching videos and reading about what people keep in their makeup bag or what their go-to products are, so I figured I’d make a #HBJblogmas post all about my favorite makeup products! These are all affordable drugstore products and I’m no expert at all, so I’m hoping this post might help my pals who are also just getting into this kind of stuff.

Be sure to leave a comment at the bottom of the post telling me about your favorite makeup products!

I’ve written about this moisturizer before, but I’ve been super into it lately! This Olay moisturizer is the best one I’ve ever used. It’s got SPF, is lightweight yet long-lasting, and is pretty affordable — what more could you want?

I’ve used this Neutrogena face wash for basically as long as I’ve been using a facial cleanser. I have really sensitive skin so this face wash is perfect. I like my products fragrance free and gentle on my skin, so Neutrogena is usually a solid brand for me when it comes to skincare.

I’ve only recently started using foundation and concealer (I was previously just an eyeshadow and mascara person), so I’m still getting the hang of it. A couple weeks ago my BFF Talya took me to Ulta and helped me match products to my skintone, which was super nice of her and much needed.

I’m currently using the L’Oreal True Match Lumi foundation in the color W1-2 “porcelain – light ivory warm.” I’m really pale but I have very warm undertones, so it was a little hard to find a foundation to match my skintone. I liked that this one came in a warm tone even though it’s a pale shade. Definitely still working on learning how to apply it, but the color match is great.

For concealer, I’m using the NYX HD Studio Photogenic concealer in the color CW 01. I can’t believe I wasn’t using concealer before. It’s made such a big difference in covering up my naturally dark undereye circles.

To apply my foundation and concealer, I’ve been using this beauty sponge. It’s taken some getting used to, but I think it really helps me apply the makeup in an even fashion.

I love doing my eyeshadow, but I never know what to do with a big eyeshadow palette with a whole bunch of colors because I only ever end up using one or two every time. I think I’ve found my holy grail eyeshadow look and it involves only two shades! (I even use these two eyeshadows as blush and highlighter because I love them that much.)

I use this pinkish Ulta eyeshadow single in the shade Beauty Junkie in the crease and along the outer corner of my eye and as blush in the apples of my cheeks when I want to look really shimmery. I use the white Ulta eyeshadow single in the shade Frozen on the inner corners of my eyes and as highlighter on my browbone, nose, and cheekbones. I know matte eyeshadow looks are in style, but you’ll have to pry my shimmery eyeshadows from my cold, dead hands.

To apply my eyeshadow I use this elf brush that I bought for $1. You can tell I’ve had it for ages because it’s been repaired with some washi tape. Hey, if it works it works.

These are the products I’m not super attached to, but I use them because they’re what I’ve got!

I use this Sonia Kashuk brush to apply that pink eyeshadow from earlier onto the apples of my cheeks and under my cheekbones as blush. I got it in a set a long time ago and it works well enough, but I might look into getting some new brushes soon.

I’m a little embarrassed to share this Covergirl Clean pressed powder with y’all. I use this to set my concealer under my eyes because I haven’t gotten around to buying a translucent setting powder yet. The packaging on this product hasn’t looked like this in a very long time so you know I’ve had it for ages. I’m definitely going to be getting a setting powder, but it’s not exactly on the top of my to do list, so this will have to do for now!

A makeup look isn’t complete for me unless I’ve curled my eyelashes and applied some mascara. I’ve been gifted with some naturally pretty nice eyelashes, but they always look better with help.

I use this eyelash curler from Revlon and I’ve never had any complaints.

For mascara, I swear by this MegaLength mascara from Wet N Wild. It’s super affordable and I always get compliments when I’m wearing it. One time I accidentally bent the wand when I was applying it, but it actually made the application even better! With the next tube, I bent the wand into that rainbow shape on purpose and I absolutely love the results. You’d have to make a really compelling case to convince me to buy another mascara than this one.

Makeup remover and tweezers are two products I absolutely need but I don’t think people talk about all that much. I know it would probably be cheaper to use liquid makeup remover and cotton pads, but I just love the convenience of these Wet N Wild wipes.

I’ve got naturally thick eyebrows so I don’t need to fill them in — I need to keep them under control, so tweezers are a must! That being said, I’m not sure if there’s any reason to spend a whole bunch of money on them because I feel like they all work the same. I use these elf tweezers and they work perfectly well.
